If Soviet Union Participated in the 1991 Gulf War, Could They Defeat the United States?
Although History Has No Hypotheticals, We Can Boldly Imagine

In the 1991 Gulf War, the U.S. faced an Iraqi army influenced by Soviet military thought and armed with Soviet weapons. They had a total force of 1.2 million, 5,500 tanks, 3,900 armored vehicles, hundreds of Scud missiles, and over 1,000 combat aircraft. They were indeed a formidable “steel flood.”
We all know the outcome; the “multinational force” suffered less than a thousand casualties while decimating 100,000 Iraqi troops, forcing the loss of at least 2,000 tanks, over 1,000 armored vehicles, and several thousand artillery pieces.
The Gulf War marked the first informatized localized war since the advent of the information society and is a pivotal battle in human history.
What would have happened if the Soviet Union had joined this war?
I think, in my opinion, it’s quite likely that the Soviet Union would have lost the Gulf War.
