Experts Predict India May Become Uninhabitable by 2025

This year’s extreme heat in India has garnered widespread attention. In some regions, temperatures have soared to 46.9°C, while the capital, New Delhi, has hit a record-breaking high of 52.3°C.

Even more startling is that the heat has caused mosquitoes to disappear. Experts predict that by 2025, India may no longer be habitable for humans. What is causing these frequent heatwaves in India? How are people coping in such an environment?

India’s Heatwave

In India, temperatures almost reach new historical highs every year. Statistics show that in 2023, temperatures already exceeded 40°C, and the heat claimed around 17,000 lives.

According to the IEA, from 2019 to 2022, India’s electricity consumption for cooling increased by 21%. Experts estimate that by 2025, the total electricity demand for air conditioning will surpass the current total electricity consumption of the country.
