Saddam’s Paranoia

Since World War II, if one were to name a region fraught with the most conflicts, the Middle East would undoubtedly feature prominently on that list.

In times of chaos, heroes (or villains) emerge; in the modern history of the Middle East, figures like Arafat, Assad, Rabin, Nasser, and Ariel Sharon are known as the five prominent leaders of the region.

Yet, there is another figure in Middle Eastern history whose influence matches these five. Under his leadership, Iraq thrived, only to later be crushed under US intervention, leaving the country in ruins.

So, who was this person? What unknown stories are there about him?

1. Saddam Hussein

This individual is none other than Saddam Hussein. During his governance, he imported advanced Western technologies and leveraged the Middle East’s oil advantages to enact a “rapid and comprehensive development” economic policy, guiding the Iraqi people towards prosperity.

Since I was young, I have always enjoyed reading biographies of historical figures, especially those about World War II, including documentaries and novels.
