What Exactly Happened Before Stalin’s Death?

On the evening of February 28, 1953, five days before his death, Stalin invited four top Soviet officials including Khrushchev and Beria to dine with him.

Nobody would have guessed: This turned out to be Stalin’s last dinner.

The meal that night was eaten at midnight, yet Stalin called it “lunch” due to his habit of working late into the night, resulting in him waking up after 12 PM.

Thus, what would be dinner for most people was Stalin’s second meal, humorously referred to by him as “lunch.”

The location of this final dinner was at his private villa in Kuntsevo, merely a fifteen-minute drive from the Kremlin.

Perhaps due to engaging conversations, the dinner stretched until 4 AM.

At this time, Stalin was 73 years old, yet he still insisted on working 12 to 15 hours daily, as the Soviet Union’s supreme ruler had much pending work that compelled him to do so.

After dinner, Stalin nodded to Khrushchev and others who had dined with him, then returned to his room.
