The Nightmare Begins with My Child’s Adenoid and Tonsil Removal
A true story from my friend
Sharing a true story from a close friend on this community platform, I hope to urge all parents to tread cautiously. Before deciding on surgical removal of your child’s adenoids and tonsils for medical treatments, it is crucial to deliberate thoroughly.
For clarity, I will narrate my friend’s experience in the first person.
Main text follows.
My niece was diagnosed with enlarged adenoids at just over five years old, coupled with allergic rhinitis, leading to numerous hospital visits.
We consulted at various hospitals, from maternal and child health facilities to pediatric and traditional Chinese medicine institutions, visiting numerous specialists.
Western medicine suggested surgery.
Given the role of adenoids and tonsils in a child’s immune system, my initial choice was conservative treatment.
Temporary relief came with Western medicines and nasal steroids, but symptoms quickly returned once we stopped. Even after three courses of Chinese medicine, there was no improvement.
Eventually, even a traditional Chinese doctor advised surgery due to over 95% blockage.
